big changes ahead!

Happy hump day!
There are some big happenings over at whimsy lane...
I've hired Fabulous K Creative to design my blog and I'm sew excited (hehe) to see her vision come together!
Also, I've got some new stuff in the works that I'm excited to explore and add to The Shop this summer.

Also waiting in the wings are THREE giveaways I have planned coming up so make sure you participate in those. The first will be with one of my daily reads, Honey We're Home I am soooo flattered that Megan is hosting this giveaway for me!

So keep checking in, and don't forget to follow the whimsy lane twitter page and facebook for updates and discount codes.
Stay tuned!

happy easter!

Yesterday Sam participated in his very first Easter egg hunt!
He loved it, and surprisingly wasn't afraid of the Easter bunny at all!

Ready...Set...GO!

Not afraid of the big slide!

decorating with fabric and paper

Fabric and paper can be seen all over my home.
I find that I use it to decorate a lot because besides being inexpensive {and sometimes free} it adds easy punches of color.

This is fabric in simple white frames from a dollar store. Just cut the fabric to fit, and voila- bright and colorful additions to your shelf or desk.

Bunting banner from Sam's birthday party that now hangs in his room above his closet.
Another one hangs above his window.

Throw pillows in Sam's room. I made the orange and white striped one...

...and two of these for our living room couch.

Sheet music wreath I made after seeing these.

I made these poofs for Thanksgiving last year and never took them down!
I'm sure "poof" isn't the technical name for them, but that's what comes to mind when I see them!

BTW, Martha stewart sells a kit to make these but they're so easy you don't need one. All you need is tissue paper, wire, and this.

If this bulletin board looks familiar, you're probably following Megan from Honey We're Home! I got this bulletin board idea from her, {although mine's a rougher version since I've yet to add my white thumbtacks around the edges.}

Paper lanterns left over from my lantern star hang in my craft room to add a little whimsy in the corner.

Fabric pulled tight over an artist canvas makes for a quick and cheap splash of color in Sam's room.

And of course, I couldn't leave my piles and piles of delicious fabric out!
Even though they only sit on a shelf, they add so much flava to my craft room/studio/sweatshop!

♥♥♥

New springtime-inspired zipper pouches and wristlet clutches are in the shop!
Here's a {tiny} preview...

Tomorrow morning is an Easter Egg hunt for Sammy and then Sunday is Easter!
Wishing everyone a very blessed weekend ♥

craft closet organization

We don't have big closets.
One of the less popular things about our house is the closet space. They're not walk-ins, they're not large.
So we really have to make do with the space we have and that can mean...this.

but luckily Ikea has cute boxes like these for only $5.99 for two, so I took a cue from Megan's closet clean-out at Honey Were Home and got to work on my own craft room closet.

in one, my acrylic craft paints

in another, my beading supplies

nail polishes in this one and in another, unused picture frames.

This crate to the right holds bigger essentials like my power drill, glitters, wood, staple gun...lots of fun stuff!

and now my closet (while still small) is more sleek and organized.

For years I was stuck in the plastic bin rut- I don't know why I thought being able to see all my crap on the outside was a good thing!
But I'm loving these boxes from Ikea!
So have you been bitten by the spring cleaning bug yet?

Sam's ice cream parlour party!

For Sam's second birthday we made our own ice cream parlour!

toppings:
crushed peanuts
sprinkles
chocolate syrup
crushed Oreos
M&Ms
graham cracker
marshmallows
and what would a sundae be without maraschino cherries!?

our color palate was lime green and bright blue

I labeled two bins: one for adult beverages and one for non-alcoholic drinks which were creamcicle sodas to go with the old fashioned parlour theme. I also had blue punch in a big glass jar which you can see in the previous photos!

I thought these little scoops were perfect!

ice cream paddle spoons I got for free from an ice cream shop-
all I had to do was ask!

coloring table was set up for kids who didn't want to swim

"ice cream cone" cupcakes would've been cuter had I gotten enough frosting! If you do this, buy two!

opening presents!
(mommy's always behind the camera)

pool and BBQ fun
check out what I put in the swag bags!

Time flies when you're having fun!

swag bags

Later today once I get them all uploaded, I will post the pictures from Sam's second birthday party yesterday!
It was a blast!
But first I wanted to post a little about the swag bags.

Paper gift bags from a craft store $4.99 for 13 of them

I printed the tags out from EatDrinkChic and punched a hole in them and strung them to the bags by twine.

I made these little bags for the kids to have a project to take home.
the girls' bags have cupcake and ice cream beads and the boys' have sports balls.
If you want to make your own, just save ^this^ photo to your computer then insert it into a Word document and print!

Remember these?! Keeping with the old fashioned parlour theme, I couldn't leave Dots outta the mix!
And of course PopRocks had to be there too!

And couldn't leave out Airheads! A favorite past time for me is saving up my quarters to buy Airheads!

Remember when I posted about these here? I made them from a tutorial I found online for the girls' treat bags but now they've become such a hit with the girls who got them, I might have to add them to the shop!
First though, I'm making them for the girls in our class for their preschool graduation.
I see a lot of busy nights ahead of me!
But what should I call them???
The boys got little bowtie pins- something else I might be adding to the shop soon. So many possibilities!

This is what my (tiny) kitchen table looked like leading up to the party!
