Naked Morning Surprise

This morning when I went into Sam's room to get him up, he was laying there, sprawled out, totally nude. He had taken his diaper off and was enjoying the cool breeze apparently. He got up smiling and outstretched his arms like it was no thang! He's so funny. I think he's been going through a naked phase lately because he fights me every time it's time to put the fresh diaper on when changing him.
But there he was this morning, just laying there spread eagle, free-ballin' it for the world to see. Oh God, I hope this doesn't mean he's an exhibitionist! His poor alligator and elephant stuffed animals bore witness to the whole thing.

Sam's Top 10 Favorite Activities

This is a list of Sam's top 10 favorite things to do at 12 months old...

1. Steal mom's blackberry and run
2. Take off diaper
3. Take everything out of mom's purse
4. Take books off the bookshelf
5. Unplug appliances in use
6. Play with his mirror reflection
7. Bang on mom's laptop
8. Rip off laptop keys
9. Open dresser drawers and throw clothes on the floor
10.Take pillows off the couch and step on them.

Sam's 1 year Pictures!

Our little Samuel Drake is already turning one! My mom and I took him to get his 1 year photos this week, and they came out so cute! I know every parent says this, but the last year has totally flown by! It seems like yesterday Danny and I were bringing Sam home from the hospital, new to this whole parenting thing. At that time we had a Germ-X hand sanitizer on our counter that we used religiously. To this day, when I smell that scent I immediately think of the first days of Sam's life; those crazy, fun, amazing weeks of Danny and I pulling all-nighters, drinking coffee, and enjoying every minute of our new baby boy!
Seeing Danny become a dad has really sealed the deal on what an amazing man he is. Because I had a C-Section, it was really hard for me to sit up or get out of bed and he really took over and took car of everything. Whenever I hear of dads that don't change poopy diapers, it throws me so off guard because Danny is such a hands-on dad who does everything. I am one lucky girl to have my two amazing guys!

Stranger than a strange lad

Do you know why I love my son Sam? Besides the fact that he's my baby of course? Because he's weird. And I love that. He's so effin' weird that he cracks me up on a daily basis. And because he has a bad temper and I think that's funny. I like to give him this look and go "Ooh. You must be embarrassed after that." He always stops- it's like he gets it.
Sam makes the funniest expressions and does the funniest voices and sounds. He walks around doing this angry Darth Vader voice and pants like a dog. He says "heh heh!" in a really high pitch when he is both laughing and crying. And he likes to record crappy shows (like the news) that clog up my precious DVR space when he gets a hold of the remote. He smiles this big nubby grin with his just-emerging teeth and has so much joy in his eyes. He is so excited and happy that it's infectious.

The Wayne Dispatch

My dad lives in Wayne, Michigan and he writes a monthly column in the city newspaper called "On the Bright Side". This is a column in which he can write about anything that interests him, kind of like this blog, except that people actually read it!
